Hippocampus Statue

In Greek mythology the hippocampus, the sea horse is one of the strange creatures that accompany the god Poseidon. Having a fish tail with scales, but sometimes a dragon with scales and its head and front like a horse, the hippocampus is a frequent subject in ancient Greek iconography. In addition to Greece, the hippocampus often appears in the art of the Etruscans, while it is found in works of art from the region of Phoenicia and Lydia.
